Compound Adjectives
Some adjectives are made up of more than one word.
• She lives in an English-speaking country.
• He is a well-known writer.
‘English-speaking’ and ‘well-known’ are examples of compound adjectives. They have a hyphen (-) when we use them before a noun, but not when we use them after the noun.
• He is a middle-aged man. (‘Middle-aged’ has a hyphen.)
• That man is middle aged. (‘Middle aged’ doesn’t have a hyphen.)
